The survey company Survey Monkey recently ran a rather large survey that found 45% of all millennials spend more money on coffee than they do on retirement. This was especially true of females in the 18-34 year old demographic.
The findings are interesting and have been reported from news outlets ranging from USA Today to The Inquirer.
When you compound this with the same survey showing a huge chunk of millennials also not expecting to retire until after 70, you can see why coffee today wins out.
But, on the bright side, another study shows that those who work after age 65 tend to live longer than those who don’t, you wonder if millennials are onto something. Probably not, though.
In the meantime, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m going to both enjoy coffee and be sure to save… and perhaps start a company that automatically sends money to your 401k each time you buy something caffeinated. Yeah, that’s gotta be the future.
