For those of you unaware, telomeres are the end parts of a chromosome that has been associated with living longer and having a lower risk of cancer. Think of them like the plastic tips at the end of shoelaces- if you didn’t have them, your shoelaces would start to fray and fall apart, but if you have long and sturdy ones then your shoelaces will last a very long time.
Coffee has been shown to be associated with longer telomeres, which had the coffee community jumping for joy, as we all decided to splurge on an extra cup of coffee. Yet, we all assumed it was the caffeine that had this effect, since it is the strongest and most active component of coffee, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
So, if you drink tea, soda, add caffeine powder to your breakfasts, or other caffeinated beverages, you should really consider switching over, because there’s a whole host of other reasons to begin drinking coffee yesterday.
