There is something to be said about the power of rituals and their effects on our life and overall outlook. Morning rituals seem to be the most powerful, in my experience. What you choose to do in your first waking moments has a profound impact on the rest of your day. Everyone knows the phrase “I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.”  Well, creating healthy morning habits will definitely minimize how often you wake up disjointed.

One of my newest and most cherished morning rituals is creating the perfect cup of coffee. My brewing method of choice being the classic pour-over.

I enjoy every step of the process as it indulges each one of the senses. Feeling for the perfect texture of freshly ground coffee, hearing the whistle of the boiling kettle, watching the grounds blossom after being steeped, smelling the rich and earthy aroma, and finally tasting the bold and bright flavor of a new coffee roast.

The Keurig and its quick and simple one-step process to a hot cup of coffee was often hard to resist in my morning rush. But I have realized that if I give myself an extra 5 minutes each morning for my coffee I can slow down and enjoy the process of waking up and gathering my thoughts over a cup of perfectly-crafted coffee.

Completing my coffee ritual is always my first ‘win’ of the day, and those early wins are always the most valuable.
